There is a toll road from the coast all the way- you get off at Patzcuaro (it's about $50.00 US round trip and is about 3 1/2 hrs) : you will need a map for the town is fairly good size. When we went our first time, a friend suggested that we get someone to takes us there(a driver who knows Patzcuaro), we're glad we did it. Our only regret is that we did a day trip. We would like to fly into Morelia(direct flight from Mexico City) and rent a car and tour the area.
